AI Ethics, Law, Social Policy, and Governance in the Digital Age

Background

At the 5th International Conference on International Law and Legal Policy (ICILLP 2026), this symposium will jointly explore with scholars the ethical, legal, and social aspects addressed by the development of artificial intelligence in the digital age. The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and digital technologies has profoundly transformed social structures, economic systems, and patterns of human interaction. While AI-driven innovations provide significant opportunities for improving decision-making, public services, and governance efficiency, they also raise complex ethical, legal, and social challenges, including algorithmic bias, data privacy, accountability, transparency, and the regulation of emerging technologies. Addressing these challenges requires interdisciplinary approaches that integrate perspectives from computer science, law, ethics, social sciences, and public policy. In the digital age, effective AI governance frameworks are essential to ensure that technological progress aligns with human values, fundamental rights, and social justice. This symposium explores emerging issues in AI ethics, legal regulation, social policy, and governance strategies, fostering dialogue on responsible and sustainable AI development.

Goal/Rationale

The rapid adoption of artificial intelligence across various sectors has created an urgent need to address the ethical, legal, and governance challenges associated with emerging digital technologies. Issues such as insufficient regulatory frameworks, limited transparency of AI decision-making, algorithmic discrimination, data misuse, and unclear accountability mechanisms have become significant barriers to the responsible development and deployment of AI systems. This research topic aims to explore practical solutions for balancing technological innovation with ethical principles, legal compliance, and social responsibility. Recent advances in explainable AI, trustworthy AI frameworks, privacy-preserving technologies, and international AI governance initiatives provide new approaches to mitigating these challenges. Through interdisciplinary research and collaboration among scholars, policymakers, legal experts, and technology developers, this symposium seeks to promote the development of effective governance models, adaptive regulatory strategies, and ethical guidelines that support safe, inclusive, and sustainable AI innovation in the digital age.

Scope

This symposium focuses on interdisciplinary research and practical discussions on the ethical, legal, social, and governance dimensions of artificial intelligence in the digital age. Contributions are invited to explore key themes including AI ethics frameworks and responsible innovation, algorithmic fairness and transparency, data privacy and security, AI regulation and legal governance, intellectual property and liability issues, social impacts of AI adoption, digital rights and inclusion, public policy responses, and global approaches to AI governance. Participants are encouraged to present theoretical perspectives, empirical studies, policy analyses, and practical solutions addressing the challenges of trustworthy and sustainable AI development. The symposium welcomes contributions from researchers, legal professionals, policymakers, and technology experts seeking to advance interdisciplinary dialogue on responsible AI governance.

Publication

Accepted papers of the symposium will be published in Lecture Notes in Education Psychology and Public Media (Print ISSN 2753-7048), and will be submitted to Conference Proceedings Citation Index (CPCI), Crossref, CNKI, Portico, Google Scholar and other databases for indexing. The situation may be affected by factors among databases like processing time, workflow, policy, etc.

The papers will be exported to production and publication on a regular basis. Early-registered papers are expected to be published online earlier.

This symposium is organized by ICILLP 2026 and it will independently proceed the submission and publication process
